Boy Scout Troop 2005
in the Alexandria / Fairfax County area of Virginia
2014 represented an important milestone for Troop 2005 - our 10-year Anniversary. A total of 29 boys have passed through our doors. We have had 3 Eagle Scouts, 4 Life Scouts, 5 Star Scouts, and more than 15 First, Second Class and Tenderfoot rank awards. We are proud of what our boys have experienced and accomplished in Scouting and how much they have grown into young men during their time with us.
Our troop was founded in 2004 to provide the scouting experience for boys in northern Virginia who might have difficulty fitting in with a regular boy scout troop because of mild learning or social / emotional issues. Boy Scout Troop 2005 offers a wide range of activities, including:
- 4-6 campouts a year, in places such as Shenandoah National Park, Assateague Island National Seashore, a civil-war reenactment camp, and the Chesapeake & Ohio towpath
- An annual troop ski trip to Wintergreen, Virginia
- Community service events such as Scouting for Food
- Sleepovers on a submarine, a battleship, and a 200-year-old schooner
- An opportunity to earn over 20 merit badges, in subjects such as astronomy, computers, cooking, first aid, mammal study, personal management, and environmental science
- Advancement and leadership opportunities for every scout
- Activities such as building a fully loaded go-cart, funded with money raised by the Troops' annual holiday wreath sale
